« DANCING THE CHRISTIAN HYMNS »

​​1. The program “Dancing the Christian Hymns” is a sub-program of “Dance and Christianity”, itself a sub-program of “Dance and Spirituality”, which is one of the programs of the CID (International Dance Council, official partner of UNESCO).

3. It is one of the dimensions of the “Dance and Spirituality” program which observes the place of dance in the religious expression of different cultures around the world. It consists of research and creation work around the theme of “Dancing the Christian hymns”.

4. It becomes part of the tradition of the different Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox Churches, and the multiple expressions of the Christian faith through the diversity of Christianized peoples on the planet.

5. All research proposals, choreographic or theoretical, will be considered in respect of the Christian tradition to which they refer.

6. The research work of this program is carried out in the following three dimensions:

a. Current living traditions where dance is part of the expression of the Christian faith

b. The place of dance in Christianity throughout history

c. Current choreographic creations, and the reflections and questions that can lead to the evolution of the practice of dance in the expression of the Christian faith of this or that culture.

7. The tools used are:

a. Online : with regular video conferences, allowing speakers to provide their thoughts, video extracts from their productions, and their testimony.

b. Face-to-face: through unifying and innovative projects, based on research and choreographic creation, meetings and exchanges between dancers, at the initiative of member dancers.

8. The program is managed by a Committee, which is responsible for welcoming new members after an interview, collecting their initiatives, and based on them, proposing a structured program for all members and people wishing to benefit from it.

9. Can be admitted as Members the Dancers with a choreographic work, a personal approach to the theme “Dancing Christian hymns”, a Christian faith or a sensitivity to the expression of Christian spirituality of which their dance is the living expression, and who are approved after an interview by the Committee. Membership is lost by simple withdrawal expressed by the Member to the Committee, or by decision of the Committee by majority.

10. The Committee is elected for three years by all members, upon candidacy, renewable by a third each year, and composed of two to five people. It elects a specific dancer referent for each Church: Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox.

It listens to members and their proposals. It works to promote them, harmonize them, and diffuse their work. The status of member of the Committee is lost by simple withdrawal expressed to the Committee, or by decision of the Committee by majority.
