Adam Koan is a butoh artist based in Florida, USA, who has been performing and guiding workshops across Europe, the United States, Mexico, and India since 2013.

He is widely recognized for the Shadowbody YouTube channel the Shadowbody Butoh Manual, and, more recently, the Butoh Directory, which has archived over 1,000 butoh artists worldwide and continues to expand.

In 2023, he launched Theokinesis, a Christ-centered approach to butoh performance and pedagogy.

​

Throughout his journey, he has studied with 45 butoh and butoh-related guides, training most extensively under Rhizome Lee (India) and Julie Becton Gillum (USA).
